COMMON NAME: Andean condor – Vultur Gryphus. Life span: Between 50 to 75 years
DIET: Carnivore
SIZE: Body: 4 feet; wingspan: up to 10.5 feet
WEIGHT: Up to 33 pounds
Conservation VU - Vulnerable
Andean condors are massive birds, among the largest in the world that are able to fly. Because of their large weight (up to 33 pounds), even their enormous 10-foot wingspan needs some help to keep them aloft. For that reason, these birds prefer to live in windy areas where they can glide on air currents with little effort. Andean condors are found in mountainous regions, but also live near coasts replete with ocean breezes and even deserts that feature strong thermal air currents. Condors carry the freedom of Patagonia and the spirit of our ancestors of the Andes!
COMMON NAME: Chilean flamingo – Phoenicopterus Chilensis. Life span: Between 40 and 65 years
DIET: Omnivore
GROUP NAME: Colony
SIZE: 43 - 51 inches; wingspan: 60 inches
WEIGHT: 8.75 pounds
When a flamingo spots potential dinner in the lagoons of Patagonia—favorite foods include shrimp, snails, and plantlike water organisms called algae—it plunges its head into the water, twists it upside down, and scoops the fish using its upper beak like a shovel. They are able to "run" on water, thanks to their webbed feet, to gain speed before lifting up into the sky. As we transition in the seasons the flamingos do as well, from white pale color to bright pink feather.
COMMON NAME: Magellanic penguin (Pingüino de Magallanes) – Spheniscus magellanicus. Life span: Between 10 to 20 years.
DIET: Carnivore
SIZE: 61 - 76 inches
WEIGHT: 7.9 - 13.8 pounds
Magellanic penguins travel in large groups when hunting for food. In the breeding season, these birds gather in large nesting colonies at the coasts of Argentina, southern Chile, and the Falkland Islands, which have a density of 20 nests per 100 m2 (1,100 sq ft). The breeding season begins with the arrival of adult Magellanic penguins at the breeding colonies in September and extends into late February and March when the chicks are mature enough to leave the colonies.

WEIGHT: 136 pounds
Pumas are the world’s fourth largest wildcat after lions, tigers, and jaguars. They are stocky with large hind legs and a long tail—about a third of their length—which provides balance. Their strong back legs enable them to leap around 40 feet horizontally, or 18 feet vertically in a single jump, making them an apex predator of llamas and guanacos in Patagonia.
