Crux Expeditions and Into The Extremes: The Glacier Odyssey Receive a Telly Aware Award

We are proud to share that Into The Extremes: The Glacier Odyssey has received a prestigious Telly Aware Award — a recognition that celebrates storytelling with purpose, environmental awareness, and global impact.

For us at Crux Expeditions, this project was much more than a production. We participated very actively from the beginning: helping scout and access remote locations, supporting the logistics in Patagonia and Antarctica, and sharing these extraordinary landscapes with our extended family, friends, and collaborators. Evelyn from Crux Expeditions was also part of the cast, representing our deep personal connection to the journey and the places featured in the film.

One of the most meaningful aspects of this expedition was welcoming many talented Chinese participants who, for the first time in their lives, experienced Antarctica and Patagonia. Witnessing their connection with these wild environments reminded us how powerful exploration can be when it creates understanding, respect, and responsibility toward nature.

The Telly Aware Award not only recognizes creative excellence, but also highlights the importance of protecting and truly understanding the lands we explore. At Crux Expeditions, we believe that visiting remote places should have a deeper purpose than tourism alone. Expeditions can inspire education, scientific curiosity, conservation, and long-term awareness for future generations.

These landscapes are among the most fragile and important ecosystems on Earth. The more we learn about them, the more conscious we become about how humanity interacts with them — and how exploration can contribute positively to their preservation.

We are honored to have been part of this incredible project and grateful to everyone who helped make this journey possible.

Adventure: Let's Talk Evelyn - Shifter.media Jan 22, 2026 — Evelyn Salinas runs Crux Expeditions, and is my Patagonia workshop partner. She is curious, dedicated, connected.

There are places on Earth that still feel untouched — vast, silent, and impossible to fully describe until you stand there yourself. Patagonia is one of them.

Last season, we ventured deep into the remote southern corners of Patagonia alongside photographer, storyteller, and longtime adventurer Daniel Milnor. Joined by friends from the Fujifilm world, we spent more than 15 days exploring wild landscapes, sharing meals, chasing weather, and discovering what happens when creative people travel far beyond the ordinary.

What began as an expedition became something much more meaningful: a collaboration of vision, photography, exploration, and human connection.

After returning home, Daniel wrote about his experience traveling with Crux and Evelyn — reflecting on the landscapes, the remoteness, the people, and the spirit of the journey. His words captured exactly why we travel: not simply to see places, but to experience them deeply.

This expedition also inspired something new.

In January 2027, Crux and Evelyn will host an intimate Patagonia photography workshop journey designed for travelers, photographers, and storytellers who want to experience the far south in a truly immersive way.

Together, we will explore remote Patagonia through photography, conversation, field practice, and shared adventure — creating space not only to improve creatively, but to reconnect with the natural world.

  • Remote and rarely visited locations in Patagonia

  • Daily photography sessions and creative guidance

  • Small group experience with meaningful access and flexibility

None of this would have been possible without your generous help, local knowledge, and patience throughout the journey. Thank you again for being such an important part of this project.

Please also pass along my heartfelt thanks to your aunt, T. Mc. family, and everyone else who helped us during the filming — whether they appeared on camera or supported us behind the scenes. Without their warmth and hospitality, the story wouldn't be what it is today.

We spent a week backpacking in Antarctica with Evelyn on an educational expedition. She led a terrific trip, keeping us safe and comfortable amidst challenging conditions while having fun and getting to see incredible natural sights. She was particularly attentive to our leadership development, helping us turn an outdoor adventure into an opportunity for personal growth we’ll never forget.

  • Carolyn Davis - Junior Hight School, Outdoor Program

I took a trip to Southern Chile for four weeks entirely led by Evelyn and I couldn't be happier. I got a personalized travelling and outdoor educational experience that made me feel immersed in the beautiful culture. I got to be outside every day exploring and observing everything from flamingos to condors to horses and even snorkeling to see the kelp forests. I love the outdoors and Evelyn gave me exactly the experience I wanted by bringing me outside every day to see everything up close. I saw and experienced the amazing native culture and I was taught so much about how I could appreciate it by planting native trees and enjoying native dishes. I would recommend a trip like mine to anyone with the time and resources to go.

Can’t believe it is five years since I was in Patagonia on an expedition led by Evelyn, but it was such a super trip that it stays in my memory all the time. From the moment we were given a friendly welcome at Punta Arenas airport to the end of the trip everything was great.

The weather was mostly good (sometimes a bit mixed) but what a wonderful place Patagonia is to visit. It was a privilege to share Evelyn’s local knowledge and love of the countryside and environment. Her walking leadership was extremely competent and she was so well organized throughout the trip (including some very tasty picnic lunches). The whole trip was spectacular from Punta Arenas and the Penguins, to Lago Grey (and Pisco Sour cooled with glacial ice!), Torres del Paine, Cuenos del Piane, Perito Moreno, Fitzroy, El Chalten—wow what a trip!

I took a journey to Patagonia, Chile with Crux a few years ago and it was one of the most amazing trips of my life. I travel quite a bit and typically just do it on my own. It was such an enhancement to have a guide along with my group to really show us the more hidden aspects of the National Park. To have such knowledgeable guides who were also fun to hang out with made the trip such a unique experience. Evelyn, in particular, is so passionate and proud of the natural beauty that was all around us and it really made the trip worthwhile. It was truly the trip of a lifetime—Patagonia is like no other place in the world and Crux is like no other tour guide company in the world. I would highly suggest you book your travel sooner rather than later.

  • - Summer Hess, USA

I met Evelyn in 2006 when we were both working in San Pedro de Atacama. I had seen beautiful pictures of Patagonia, but it was Evelyn’s tender and vivid descriptions of her tierra austral that made me want to travel with her to her homeland. She spoke of the southern ice fields, the Paine towers, and the first nation groups with the knowledge of an environmentalist and historian. I traveled with her for three weeks through Patagonia, and if I ever have the chance to return, I would insist on going with Evelyn.

  • - Kendall Rankin, USA

My hike through Cerro Castillo, Patagonia would not have been the same without Evelyn as our guide. She was the most knowledgeable, energetic, encouraging, and supportive person I could have asked for. When I was struggling mentally and physically, she was a source of inspiration and encouragement that kept me going. She also made me have such a deep appreciation for the land that I had the privilege of hiking through. Patagonia is her home and she takes care of the land and the people who trek through the land with her. I could not recommend her services enough. Team Evelyn forever!!!

Sustainability

We believe that travel should be enriching, not just for you, but for the destinations you explore. That's why sustainability is a core value for us. From the trips we plan, to the transportation and accommodation we recommend, we want to make sure that local communities are supported and the Earth we travel is taken care of.

And to make sure we’re making an impact, we're also dedicated to giving back. Years of intentional and “accidental” fires, negative regulations, and ignorance have endangered the ecosystem of Patagonia. To push back and lend nature a hand, we’ve launched the Stone Leaf Project, dedicated to reforestation and rewilding of the areas we travel. Involving the community, restoring the greenery, and allowing nature to take care of itself again are the goals we’re pushing for. And you can be a part of this! By choosing to travel sustainably with us, you're not just creating memories, you're helping protect the places you love to visit for generations to come.
